The First EUSAIR TSG5 Meeting Strengthens Regional Cooperation and Social Cohesion
The first meeting of the Thematic Steering Group for Pillar 5 – Improved Social Cohesion— under the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) successfully took place in Zagreb on December 5. The meeting brought together key EUSAIR representatives, coordinators, and stakeholders to advance efforts in promoting social cohesion across the macro-region.
The event was co-chaired by Pillar 5 coordinators from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it welcomed participants from the European Commission, Thematic Steering Group (TSG) members, Croatian institutions, and lead partners of strategic EUSAIR projects.
The meeting addressed several important topics that will shape the future of social cohesion initiatives within the Adriatic-Ionian Region. Mr. Filip Miličević, Croatian Coordinator for Pillar 5, presented the action plan. He highlighted the key activities, cross-cutting themes, and opportunities for collaboration with the Youth Council.
Ms. Gabby Hagmuller from DG REGIO provided an update on the status and approval process of the EUSAIR Action Plan. She emphasized the European Commission's continued support for regional cooperation and strategic initiatives.
Participants announced upcoming events, including a regional workshop in Athens, scheduled for February 2025, and the 10th EUSAIR Forum, which will take place in Crete in May 2025. These events will serve as platforms for further collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
Two flagship project proposals were presented by Slovenian partners, focusing on social innovation and youth engagement. These projects aim to foster inclusivity and strengthen community development across the region.
Progress updates were shared on key projects, including FACILITYPOINT and SP4EUSAIR. A proposal was made to organize an online capacity-building workshop in early 2025. Participants also agreed to develop methodologies for identifying and evaluating future project ideas to ensure continued progress and innovation.
The meeting concluded with several operational decisions, including proposals for future topics and studies under Pillar 5. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to advancing strategic initiatives and fostering transnational cooperation. The next TSG5 meeting is scheduled for 2025, with exact dates and location to be announced.
The successful first TSG5 meeting marks a significant step toward achieving the goals of improved social cohesion, shared policies, and innovative solutions for the Adriatic-Ionian Region. By working together, EUSAIR stakeholders continue to build a stronger, more connected future for all communities in the region.
