The 8th EUSAIR Forum commenced successfully with perfect organisation of the hosting country, Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the opening speeches, the relevance of enlargement and the need for joint efforts of both member states and candidate countries was stressed. The challenge of brain drain and focus on youth was highlighted as another key area for the region, how to create opportunities for the young to stay in the region of origin. For this, we need to work with the youth and not just for the youth as Commissioner Fairrera has put it. This calls for reinforced commitment to establish the EUSAIR Youth Council.
Twin transition for a greener and digitally enhanced Europe needs to be supported by increased social cohesion.
The revision of the Action Plan as one of the main activities of the chairing country was once again recognised as means to address all these issues. The last EUSAIR Governing Board adopted decisions on the introduction of Enlargement as a new horizontal topic and a new Social Pillar addressing the topics of youth and skills.
