EUSAIR Press Contest Winners
The EUSAIR Facility Point organized a press contest, running from June 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023, to acknowledge outstanding contributions that promote awareness about the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) and its role in regional development. This contest aimed to address the challenge of limited awareness regarding EUSAIR's work and existence.
A total of 11 submissions were received for the contest. Six individuals submitted their work for consideration. The judging panel comprised four members, including two representatives from the EUSAIR Facility Points. The other two judges were Aldin Tiro, a Bosnian journalist actively involved in EUSAIR and a participant at the EUSAIR Communication Academy 2.0, along with Marijana Rebić from Croatia, who serves as the Secretary General of the World Federation of Travel Journalists and Writers. Their extensive experience and dedication to regional cooperation and journalism enriched the evaluation process.
The EUSAIR Press Contest was won by Miho Dobrašin from Croatia, a journalist working for HINA - the Croatian news agency. Miho's winning submission, titled "Students are trying to revive the ports of the Adriatic-Ionian region with ideas" (original title: "Studenti idejama nastoje oživjeti luke jadransko-jonske regije"), made a significant impact. His article was described by judges as a concrete and efficient contribution to fostering a better understanding and interest in EUSAIR and macro-regional cooperation. Miho's work particularly stood out for its focus on a very commendable project for regional cooperation among young, innovative populations and its potential to play a pivotal role in the future development of the Brcko Region. His outstanding journalism exemplifies the essence of the contest, which is to shed light on the crucial work of EUSAIR and promote its significance through compelling narratives.
In the EUSAIR press contest, the second place was secured by Dino Subašić, a journalist working for RTV Slovenija. Dino's entry was a compelling video submission titled "Annual Forum of the European Union Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region EUSAIR," which captivated the judges with its engaging storytelling and informative content. The third place was also awarded to the accomplished Miho Dobrašin, who displayed exceptional journalism skills once again. Miho's second submission, an article titled "Croatia takes over the presidency of EU Adriatic-Ionian strategy today," exemplified his commitment to covering significant events and developments related to EUSAIR.
The reward for winning EUSAIR Press Contest will be awarded to Miho during the Mediterranean Coast and Macro-regional Strategies Week 2023 in Izola this September. This award not only acknowledges his journalistic excellence but also includes arrangements for his travel and accommodation, allowing him to attend up to 5 EUSAIR events of his choice. These events will offer valuable opportunities to further explore the intricacies of macro-regional cooperation and deepen his engagement with EUSAIR's mission.
Eligibility for the contest was open to journalists from both EU and EUSAIR countries. Submissions could take the form of written or audio-visual content. To be considered, contributions had to be published by recognized news organizations between June 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023. Submissions were required to be made through an online form by June 30, 2023. The official announcement of the winner is scheduled to take place during the Mediterranean Coast and Macro-regional Strategies Week 2023 held in Izola in September.
The evaluation criteria for the contest included assessing the winner's ability to convincingly convey the story of EUSAIR, emphasize its achievements, and underscore the value of macro-regional cooperation. Contributions were expected to effectively articulate various aspects of EUSAIR, including its role and operations, through compelling narratives. Additionally, they could explore broader topics related to macro-regional cooperation, but it was essential to incorporate a reference to EUSAIR in these contributions.
This year's contest garnered a remarkable array of excellent contributions from talented journalists. The submissions and the high quality of work demonstrated a growing interest in and recognition of EUSAIR's importance and impact. As a result, EUSAIR is gaining momentum and attracting more attention, which aligns with its mission to enhance regional development and cooperation. The contest not only celebrated outstanding journalism but also served as a testament to the expanding reach and influence of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region.
