Enlargement package: EC publishes reports on the Western Balkans and Turkey
On 17 April 2018, the European Commission adopted the annual Enlargement package, including the seven individual reports on Western Balkan countries and Turkey.
In this year's Package the Commission recommended to the Council to open the accession negotiations with the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Albania. For the first time, the annual assessments of the Economic Reform Programmes for the Western Balkans and Turkey have been published together with the Package, showing countries' efforts towards strengthening the macroeconomic and fiscal stability for economic growth.
The Enlargement package is a set of documents explaining the Commission policy on EU enlargement, assesing the state of play in the candidate countries and potential candidates and set guidelines on reform priorities in those countries. It is building upon the Strategy for the Western Balkans adopted on 6 February 2018, which confirmed a credible enlargement perspective and enhanced EU engagement in the region, and thus making a step forward towards the European future of the countries concerned.
