The biggest hackathon in the world #EUvsVirus
#EUvsVirus, the biggest hackathon in the world, was the most efficient mission-driven initiative ever created to fight against an unexpected world-changing challenge: COVID-19. It was a great example of a new way of working between public administrations (European Commission and 27 Member States), purpose-driven innovators, entrepreneurs and the civil society actors based on the principles of solidarity, decentralised collaboration and full empowerment.
Macro-regional strategies played a significant role in promoting such amazing opportunity and being united hand in hand, our common work reached 21.000 people of 114 nationalities, which contributed more than 2.000 exceptional solutions in the areas of health, business continuity, remote work and education, social and political cohesion, digital finance and more.
Slovenian tech community engineers surprised us during the lockdown with several solutions for how to cope with the lack of respirators and protection equipment for COVID-19 on the global market.
The prototype vents “DIHAM” for saving lives, a prototype visor for facial protection, and a prototype 3D for medical protection masks were only three of the outstanding solutions which were later printed in Slovenia, Europe and in american hospitals; not to mention the PARP, a prototype of an air-filtering device for Hazmat suits, and ImunoArt therapy as one possible cure for COVID-19.
You can read more about the examples of solidarity, creativity and hard work to come from ideas to solutions in the final report.
