EUSAIR flagships defined within Pillar 2 – Connecting the Region, subgroup Transport
EUSAIR key implementers got together and defined key priorities for the transport connectivity of the region! Following the #EUGreenDeal!
Today EUSAIR started with video conference meetings of National and Pillar Coordinators to discuss and confirm the flagships to be embedded into the IPA/ESIF programming documents.
Pillar 2 - Connecting the Region/subgroup Transport continued the ice-breaking process, started by Pillar 3 - Environmental Quality, and also proposed a flagship with concrete actions countries will meet at national level to follow the already identified common EUSAIR Thematic Priority - Competitive, seamless intermodal connections for freight and passenger transport in the Adriatic-Ionian region.
Flagship under the title The Adriatic-Ionian Multi-modal Corridors addresses the challenge/need of macro-regional relevance to develop an interconnected and integrated transportation system in the Adriatic-Ionian region. It is consistent with national priorities and with EU objectives of more connected, greener and low-carbon Europe (i.e. Policy Objectives 3 and 2), aiming at strengthening North-South and East-West relations by means of the identification of multi-modal corridors alongside the TEN-T network including, in particular, maritime connections between the coasts of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas and intermodal connections between the seaports and the hinterland of the region.
The contribution of Thematic Steering Group 2/subgroup Transport was very much apprised by the participants of the meeting.
